Milford Track day walk

PHOTO: Relaxing at Neale Burn

Even if you're on a tight itinerary, it's still possible to check out the world-famous Milford Track.

Known as "the finest walk in the world", the Milford Track is a hiker's paradise, traversing some of the most beautiful sections of Fiordland National Park.

A one-day guided walk is the perfect way to experience the spectacular scenery and bird life of this internationally acclaimed track.

The day begins with a short coach transfer from Te Anau followed by a scenic lake cruise to Glade Wharf - the start of the Milford Track.

The track winds gently alongside the Clinton River to historic Glade House where you'll enjoy a leisurely lunch.

The views are magnificent as you walk further up the valley, through ancient beech forest, grassy flats and wetlands. Along the way, your nature guide explains the track's history and points out native birds and plants.

On arrival at the Neale Burn, relax on the riverbank taking in the spectacular alpine views before retracing your steps.

Groups are limited to 12 walkers per guide and the walking is relaxed and easy (11km return). There's plenty of time to take photos and enjoy lunch (included) at Glade House.

The guided Milford Track Day Walk departs daily from Te Anau between November and mid April.

Milford Sound overnight cruises

Milford Sound is a world-renowned natural wonder. Nowhere else in Fiordland do the mountains stand so tall, straight out of the sea.

Real Journeys' daytime Nature Cruises are led by specialist nature guides with strong conservation and scientific backgrounds, making them the ideal way to explore this legendary location.

The 2 - 2 1/2 hour excursion is one of the longest day cruises in Milford Sound, traversing the full length of the fiord to the Tasman Sea. This cruise offers a close-up experience of Milford Sound's rainforest, soaring rock walls, and wildlife. Throughout the cruise, the guides share stories of the fiord's history and are happy to answer any questions.

Nature Cruises allow plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and to pause to view highlights. Cruise so close to waterfalls that water soaks the foredeck, or drift gently while watching out for dolphins, seals and penguins.

Real Journeys Nature Cruises operate all year, with coach connections from Queenstown and Te Anau.
