Payphones
Telecom has a network of approximately 4,000 Payphones across New Zealand. They are found in most busy public places and can easily be identified by their distinctive yellow and blue livery.
Every Payphone accepts chip PhoneCards™, which are available from a large network of retailers - such as supermarkets, hostels, book stores and service stations - across the country. Just look for the ‘Prepaid Cards’ sign. Payphones also accept Credit Cards - just insert and call. And if you want to make a call using coins, just look out for a booth that shows the word “Coin”.
In addition, some indoor Payphones offer modem access for PC users, particularly useful in locations such as airports and hotels. You will need to have your own portable PC to take advantage of this feature. Some external booths are also WiFi hotspots, whereby laptop users can access wireless high speed internet up to 50 metres away from payphone booths.
